Merchandise - Video Releases in English

This section contains information on legit English language releases of "Robotech the movie", both the full length version and the edited 2011 version which only contains "Southern Cross" footage. I have also included two other sections; one which compiles the legit releases of the alternate ending, and legit releases which contain "Robotech the movie" supplementary material such as storyboard sequences, music videos and TV commercials. Please note that shorter running times on PAL video releases are due to format conversion issues, and they are not edited releases. A listing of merchandise for foreign language markets including "Robotech the movie" releases can be found here. A listing of "Megazone 23" video releases in English can be found here. Please note: I have seen one or two websites claim that this film was released in Australia. I live in Australia and have never come across the film in any video shop, nor seen any evidence indicating that it was released by an Australian video distributor. Note: Please do not ask me where bootleg and/or fan made music videos etc of this movie can be found. If you email me regarding bootlegs, don't expect any response.

Robotech: The Complete Series

Robotech: The Complete Series DVD Box cover Robotech: The Complete Series - The Robotech Archives DVD Box cover
Country of Origin: USA
Company: A&E Entertainment
Format: Region 1, NTSC DVD, English and Spanish Dubbed (17 discs)
Runtime: 2028 minutes
Catalogue Number: AAAE249020
Release Date: 18 October 2011
Availability: Out of Print

2011 release of the 2004 "remastered" Robotech TV series. The set contains four discs of extras, including a 29 minute edited cut of "Robotech the movie" (with English and Spanish language options). This is the movie basically edited down to the "Southern Cross" segments, which makes the movie even more incomprehensible than ever before. The opening and closing credit sequences from the original film survive the edit intact. Of note in this new edit is an alternate title card, which reads "Robotech the Untold Story" rather than the usual "Robotech the movie". This seems to be from an original source (a worn out composite video master from the late 1980’s) rather than a new addition made for this set. A couple of seconds of "Southern Cross" footage (not previously seen in "Robotech the movie") have been added to this edit in place of "Megazone 23" footage. Some dialogue in one sequence which transitioned between "Megazone 23" and "Southern Cross" footage, has been deleted and only sound effects and music remain for that scene. The end sequence (i.e. Alternate Ending Footage) is gone except a couple of shots of rubble right at the end. The end credits sequence also briefly has a short shot of a planet from the opening credits matted into its first few seconds. See Related "Robotech the movie" Releases below for other "Robotech the movie" material in this set.

Megazone 23 Part II Overseas Edition (English Language Study Package - Unconfirmed Release)

Format: NTSC VHS, English Dubbed with Japanese Subtitles
Runtime: 90 minutes (?)
Catalogue Number: Unknown
Release Date: Circa 1986 - 1987 (Unconfirmed)
Availability: Out of Print

Supposedly there was a release of the mid 1980's Harmony Gold English dub of "Megazone 23 Part II" with Japanese subtitles as an English language study package. However I cannot find any real evidence that it actually existed. If it did exist, it may have contained the 10 minute ending of "Robotech the movie". Apparently there were many English language study package containing dubs of anime, and came in packages with study books. I've seen one such package for "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato", and I know other similar packages exist. If anybody can confirm this study package exists and/or if it contains the "Robotech the movie" footage, please email me.

The footage presented in the music video is entirely from "Southern Cross" (the Japanese series which comprised the "Masters" saga of the "Robotech" TV series) .
