This section contains information on "Robotech the movie" English vocal and film score soundtrack releases. For a movie that wasn’t widely distributed, there certainly are a lot of soundtrack releases for it. For "Megazone 23" soundtrack releases, please see this page. Note: Please do not ask me where bootleg CDs or downloads can be found. You won't find any listed here, and if you email me regarding either, don't expect any response.
Robotech Musique Originale Du Film
A French 7" vinyl single with the opening score to the film on the "A side" and the French theme to the "Robotech" TV series on the B side performed by Bernard Minet, who wrote and performed many of the theme songs to French adaptations of anime and tokusatsu shows in the 1980's and into the 1990's.
"Underground" - Joann Harris & Michael Bradley
A French 7" vinyl single release of two of the songs featured in the movie.
"Underground" - Joann Harris & Michael Bradley
A French 12" vinyl single release of two of the songs featured in the movie. "Underground" is an extended mix. The version of "The Future Is Now" on this single is same mix as the 7" vinyl single.
Bande Originale Du Film Robotech
A French 12" vinyl album release of the soundtrack from the French record label Carrre. The song "Shinin' On Top Of A Star" by Randall Rumage doesn't actually appear in any version of the film. Randall himself was kind enough to email me personally and told me that his song was added to the album because there weren’t enough songs in the film for an entire album.
Banda Original Del Film Robotech
The Argentinean 12" vinyl album release of the soundtrack. The soundtrack was sublicensed by Argentinean record label Music Hall, from the French record label Carrre. The song "Shinin' On Top Of A Star" by Randall Rumage doesn't actually appear in any version of the film. Randall himself was kind enough to email me personally and told me that his song was added to the album because there weren’t enough songs in the film for an entire album. Some sources state one or more of the tracks were replaced with Spanish language versions of the songs, or an additional song in Spanish was added to the track listing. I cannot find any evidence of this on any of the versions of this soundtrack or on any Argentinean release.
Banda Original De Sonido Del Film "Robotech"
The Argentinean audio cassette album release of the soundtrack.
"Underground" - Joann Harris & Michael Bradley
A US 12" vinyl single release of two of the songs featured in the movie. This 12" single is identical in terms of content to the French 12" vinyl single. But unlike the French release, this version was seemingly only released in generic die-cut black sleeves. I don’t think a picture sleeve was issued for this release. Some sites claim that this single was a "promotional only" version, but it has barcodes on the labels and no mention on the label or sleeve of being a "promotional only" version.
Robotech Perfect Soundtrack Album
An almost complete two CD collection of background music and vocal tracks from all the "Robotech" properties. This album was the first time most of the vocal tracks from "Robotech the movie" had been released commercially in the US. Four tracks from the original movie score also appear on the set, however the liner notes state the music was recorded specifically for "Robotech II: The Sentinels". I suspect the music was actually created for "Robotech the movie" or to be used in both projects. The liner notes credit these tracks as written and preformed by Michael Bradley and Steve Wittmack.
Robotech the Original Soundtrack - 20th Anniversary Edition
A 2006 re-issue of the above Streamline CD set. Not only does this version contain all background music and vocal tracks from all the "Robotech" properties, but has unreleased and unused tracks as well, though none of these previously unissued tracks are from "Robotech the movie". There are two versions of this set; the original re-released in January 2006 and a second version released in July 2006. The second version underwent a new noise reduction process and the original mono tracks went through a “stereoisation” process. The latter version also features new cover art.
Robotech 30th Anniversary Soundtrack
2015 reissue with 116 tracks, half of them remastered from the original 24 track masters and new liner notes. Interestingly most of the original score from "Robotech the movie" appears on this release with film score 11 tracks in total. The liner notes state the film score was recorded specifically for "Robotech II: The Sentinels", however I suspect the music was actually created for "Robotech the movie" or created at the same time to be used in either project. Except for the extended "Robotech Theme" which was written by by Ulpio Minucci, the film score was written and preformed by Michael Bradley and Steve Wittmack. Bafflingly this release omits all but one of the previously issued "Robotech the movie" vocal tracks on past Harmony Gold "Robotech" music compilations and adds Randall Rumage's "Shinin' On Top Of A Star", which has been mastered off a vinyl copy of the 1987 "Robotech the movie" soundtrack album as the master tape and any safety copies presumably have been lost. The song doesn't actually appear in any version of the film. Randall himself was kind enough to email me personally and told me that his song was added to the "Robotech the movie" soundtrack album because there weren’t enough songs in the film for an entire album. The "Robotech 30th Anniversary Soundtrack" is also available to download from iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Music. |
